[HKG/Macau 2011/12: Food, Glorious Food!]

No photo collection of a trip overseas would be complete without food.

From snacks on the streets…

To HKG Cafes…

To [Toast Box] – my new discovery this holiday..

And full, happy meals of noodles and seafood…

We even found this Michelin ‘restaurant’, while on a search for a restaurant we suspect was closed for renovations, serving…

Delicious fish congee…

Then there were the tasty dinners with family…

And birthday celebrations for my gran’s big birthday (the real purpose of my trip back to HKG)

And not so far away… in Macau…

The famous Portugese tarts…

And more seafood…

This whole crab between just the two of us…

Digging in…

(This meal actually came free with our Macau entertainment package – which we weren’t expecting to redeem – but soo glad we did, you can’t beat hand-made noodles like this)

And just before we came home – my mum made sure I was eating healthy by handing me this giant apple (from Japan) …

We actually ate a lot (a lot) more… especially in Hong Kong, where I tried to satisfy some 2 years worth of craving in 5 days… but I don’t have many more photos.

I’ve found that I took a lot less photos in HKG – and I think that it was because the sights were familiar, the places known that I didn’t find the need to take out my camera and capture everything. Strange, given I find reasons to carry my camera with me when I’m out and about in Melbourne everyday, where I’ve lived for most of my life.

Or…. I was just too busy eating to grab my camera.

Yup, that was probably it.

(I should probably clarify that I still have a lot of photos …just comparatively less)

[Macau 2012: Trees, Trees, Christmas Trees]

Hong Kong’s Christmas display dazzled me, but Macau didn’t disappoint.

While we caught glimpses of Chinese New Year decorations around town (still wrapped in plastic but all ready to welcome the Year of the Dragon), trees, trees and more Christmas trees (and other Christmas-sy things) could still be found here and there…

At Senado Square…

Out and about on the streets…

Inside the new Galaxy Resort …

And the famous Venetian…

My first trip to Macau – a little getaway from the ever-changing but always familiar Hong Kong.

[HKG 2011/12: It was (just after) Christmas]

Picking my favourite season in Hong Kong is not difficult. In fact, if you said I had to,  I could probably narrow it down to the week or so between Christmas and the first few days of the new year.

Warm winters and shopping (and food) aside, I never grow tired of all the Christmas decorations that fill Hong Kong’s streets at this time of the year (and I imagine I never will).

Apart from the bright, twinkling Christmas lights adorning the many tall buildings, you’ll find a Christmas tree or a snowman or a santa or two at nearly every turn, in every mall, every public space, every building lobby….

While the decorations are up well before Christmas, Hong Kong efficiency has them cleared within the first week of the new year … Luckily for me this year, I got there just in time…

Arriving at the airport…

(Gingerbreadmen were popular this year)

Out at Habour City, Hong Kong’s Disneyland was celebrating the opening of their new Toy Story theme park…

This had to be my favourite tree of the year…

Out on the streets…

Across the habour, Tiffany & Co had the girls gathering at their beautiful tree …

and their cute carousel …

Back at the hotel…

Christmas time – best spent with the one(s) you love.

Well, that took a couple of weeks too long to post.

My second new year’s resolution had been to do a bit more with my blog, maybe a bit more content, reformat… I thought I’d start with something easy – change my photo layout.

But experimenting with larger photos, galleries, slideshows…. all lead to my somehow deleting the content I’d drafted and then, ultimately giving up in frustration.

And… no change at all to my blog entries..!

It may be time for a big overhaul of my blog … please bear with me!
